On Saturday, December 1, I had the pleasure of decorating Manulife’s annual holiday gala. Manulife is a long-time client of mine and I have decorated several of their events. I began to plan the décor in consultation with the Manulife gala committee, who decided on the theme for the event. For this year’s gala, the committee chose a masquerade theme, which was such a fun and festive theme to create the décor around.

The gala décor featured an elegant colour palette of silver and purples—perfect for a masquerade theme. The tables, linens and chair covers all featured this colour palette and it looked incredible! For the 85 tables, I created two different, but beautiful, centrepieces, each with a feather theme. One style featured ostrich feathers and the other feather boas. Different coloured masquerade masks were incorporated into the centerpieces. The masks looked great with the feathers and really helped to tie in the theme.

The gala also featured professional lighting, including gobos—a lighting fixture that can project an image onto the ceiling. We chose different types of masks to be projected on the ceiling and walls. The ceiling was also decorated with a black and purple canopy, with a beautiful chandelier in the centre. There was also a photo booth at the gala, which allowed the guests to take fun and silly pictures. Photo booths are quite popular at weddings these days and really add to the fun of the festivities, so it was great to have one at the gala. This year’s event was a huge success! A great time was had by all and I had a wonderful time doing the decor.
